Moving and Handling of People Training Course
This course covers the following:
Theory:
- Back facts – injuries & impact on physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being
- Impact of a catastrophic injury: multiple problems
- What Manual Handling is: lifting, lowering, pushing & pulling
- Guidelines on weight lifting limits (HSE)
- Introduction to a kinetic approach, demonstrate kinetic approach & assess
- Manual Handling Regulations 1992: avoiding hazardous manual handling, assess and reduce risk
- Poor posture and poor handling techniques and physical problems, hazardous postures
- Principles of safe handling of people
- Legislation
- Duties of employer and employee
- Client assessment, promoting maximum independence, client care
- Range of equipment, ergonomics & tile framework in Risk Assessment
- Risk Assessment: identifying hazards and risk, 5 steps
Practical:
- Techniques that should never be performed
- Practical demonstrations, including hoist work, stand aid, sit to stand, bed work, floor work, slide sheets, transfer boards, handling belts, other equipment
- Assessment
